Having a blast at the the International Congress of Genetics in Melbourne, Australia! Extremely happy and proud to be presenting my work in both whitefly and spotted lanternfly detection using environmental DNA.

Our new paper is finally out. We demonstrate that air quality samplers are quietly collecting eDNA and may have been measuring terrestrial biodiversity for decades. We are very excited about this new project. There are literally thousands of these stations in networks all over the world filtering the air every day, every week... this could be game changing for efforts to track the planet's biodiversity. sciencedirect.com/science/arti

Video abstract a little late being attached to our paper. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. If you’re interested in how we are trying to validate eDNA air sampling for bats we describe the step by step process we are taking here youtube.com/watch?v=2T0QeERtpQ

Our first paper on using airborne eDNA to conduct bat roost monitoring is now live. It's a model of how species at risk could be tracked using non-invasive air samples. peerj.com/articles/14772/

Supported by partners at NatureMetrics we have been awarded a grant to develop air eDNA sampling for species at risk monitoring. Starting with bats as a model. Follow along as we report our work from the field and lab. t.co/wmfrT7eZmz

Environmental DNA lets us detect species, but DNA moves & persists in the environment, so a DNA detection may not represent a local, living individual. Our (led by LΓ©onie Suter) uses different DNA fragment lengths to distinguish recently-shed from older krill eDNA

What can you find in passively collected airborne dust over the course of a year? A LOT. Our new paper on airborne is out with the wonderful Mark Johnson, Matthew Barnes and Nina Garrett. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/fu

The first long term study of animal eDNA in the air - all with passive collections. Very exciting at the prospect of long term terrestrial eDNA monitoring in remote locations without access to power. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/fu

Fantastic MSc student Nina's first paper is out. She was able to document almost every species of bat in a complex tropical artificial "cave" community just by collecting their in the air. There is tremendous potential in this new tool we're developing and we are very excited. New prototype samplers are simple and inexpensive. We also find surprising ways DNA is transferred even on gear! Stand by for more... onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10
