Oddly, Troubadour was pretty much only slinging items (with a well timed Ifrit and Bravery on key turns). I found this explanation of Primevil's AI routine. Based on this, I think I can still beat it without a protector but I'll need l First Turn (survivalist) for turn manipulation (so using LTM/AS).

Ice Dragon is now dead. The conventional wisdom (you need a Protector and Troubadour) seems to be true here. Yimir can't protect against the OHKO and you need a way to remove his buffs or the fight will never end. Maybe with a lot of grinding to stack specific accessories this is doable without a protector, but that's not interesting to me. #EtrianOdyssey #etrianodysseyoriginscollection #EO1

Thunder Dragon is dead. Needed to use a protector for this as he kept removing my volt def buff. Think if I brought like 20 Axelay IIs, I could keep the Troubadour able to drop boosted volt def when needed and avoid the protector #EtrianOdyssey #EO1 #etrianodysseyoriginscollection
