The head guy for #eoma68, Luke Leigh ton, got multiple grants from #nlnet totaling over $350k for the libre riscv project while representing himself as “an ethical technology specialist who has a consistent 24-year track record of developing code in a real-time transparent (fully libre) fashion, and in managing Software Libre teams.”
As he was publicly documenting his failures on Eoma68, nlnet funds him for libre riscv and then he abandons Eoma68.
Did nlnet even vet this guy?
If anybody’s curious what happened to the #eoma68(the upgradable computer card)you can read through this mailing list: http://lists.phcomp.co.uk/pipermail/arm-netbook/2022-November/016443.html
It’s quite the roller coaster ride if you’ve got time to read.
TLDR: the guy heading the project(Luke) clearly has some issues and is probably hiding something. Small run of test cards show back up after 2 years and may actually get shipped.
Balthazar project aims to create an open source 13.3 inch laptop that can use RISC-V, ARM, or FPGA processors thanks to a modular design based on the EOMA68 projects. Under development since 2019, it's not available yet, but work is progressing. https://www.cnx-software.com/2023/02/10/balthazar-an-open-source-hardware-modular-risc-v-arm-or-fpga-laptop/

I sometimes dial up the mailing list archivess of the #EOMA68 project, much like one picks at a scab.
Was surprised by this post here: https://lists.phcomp.co.uk/pipermail/arm-netbook/2022-December/016531.html
TLDR, it looks like 93 EOMA68 A20 cards might actually ship?
I see no word about the actual laptop casing, which I thought was going out to a lot of backers in kit form.
Maybe im wrong, but that reads like a lot of cards which wont have a mechanism of booting them.
ARM Cortex A7 SoCs in 2024, disclaimers apply.

#eoma68 I guess im no longer a backer, as I formally asked them to not send me any kind of laptop and to just keep my pledge as a donation to R&D.
I do like to peek in on the relevant listservs from time to time though.
It's hard to come to any conclusion other than lkcl has paused EOMA68 now for his LibreSOC project, for a couple of years now.
Luke Kenneth:
" #EOMA68 will ship in October!"
Backers:
"It's November, where's Luke?"
We're inching closer to that day of the month again - when Luke Kenneth pushes the #EOMA68 release date back another half-year because his factory exploded or whatever.
EOMA68 earth-friendly / free / libre / Linux computer card shipping?
Project leader:
It should be February by
the time the 2.7.5 samples are done, March by the time 1,000 sets of components are ordered.
May-June by the time a batch of 1,000 PCBs come in, June-July-August by the time they're assembled, tested, start getting shipped to the USA distribution hub.
July-August-September by the time they start going out to people.

@ink_slinger My Blackberry DTEK60 is only a few months old so I have a long time to think about what would be next (very good phone for the price--not much bloat and BB pushes android security updates very quickly). I still dream of the day when mobiles are commodities built in standard formats--perhaps as an #EOMA68 based device?
