J'ai décidé de ne plus publier chaque jour mes petites histoires au sujet des gros fails d'explorateurs.

J'en ai marre de cette sensation d'être obligée de poster chaque jour alors que j'ai pas le temps/l'envie. Je veux pas perpétuer ce sentiment sur Mastodon, même si je suis ultra fière de ce calendrier réalisé avec @Ben !

Let's discover the unfortunate story of the #astronomer Le Gentil.

Sent to India in 1760 to study the rare transit of Venus, he couldn't land in time because of the war which has just broken out between 🇨🇵 and 🇬🇧. For 8 years, Le Gentil waited around for the next transit. But, on D-Day, he couldn't see anything because of the clouds!

He sailed back to France, to find out he has been legally declared dead: none of his letters arrived in 11 years.

You might already be familiar with Alexandra David-Néel and her journey in Tibet.

But did you know that, in 1924, she sneaked into the hostile stranger city of Lhassa dressed as a beggar? 💪

For 2 months, she lived right under the nose of the Dalai Lama, until one detail betrays her: she bathed into the river daily, which was unusual.

Unmasked, she fled, and later said that she was proud of her "Parisian joke".

Back in 2020, when all hell broke loose, @Ben and I created a funny #AdventCalendar to share each day on my travel blog an epic fail that happened to an explorer, from Antiquity to Modern era.
