One for the foodies on #Epicure: quick seafood lunch and some nice natural wine pairing. A dry and crunchy Oriental Blanc 100% Moscatel de Alejandría from Els Bardissots (Alella) with steamed French mussles, and a light and slightly oxitated Morgon Charmes, a Gamay from Beaujolais, perfect with an intense arros de cranc (crab rice). #Carignan (Carinyena or Samsó in Catalonia) is an #autochthonous, very old Spanish variety that starts its journey in Aragon / Catalonia and becomes wildly adopted throughout the Med.
Fast forward several centuries later and its cultivation is so endemic that vignerons are actively encouraged to please plant something else under the EU “vine pull scheme” regulations.
Which brings me to this potent 100% organic Carinyena of 2020 made by Celler Aixalà Alcait, which smells older than it tastes with its tertiary hints of stewed cherries, fresh tobacco, recently vacated leather sofa + dry-cured ham left behind on a plate.
On the palate perhaps not quite there yet although it would make a happy pairing it with something roasted and dripping in fat. It really needs to hide in a cellar for the next four years to reach its full potential.

For the many wine lovers, here's a suggestion for a snack that goes sensationally with wine. A Japanese-European umami bomb, easy to prepare: Cheese and Miso Toast.
4 slices of toast
30 g Parmigiano Reggiano
60 g Gruyère
1 clove garlic
½ tbsp white Miso paste
½ tbsp olive oil
Finely chop the Parmigiano, Gruyère and garlic or blitz in a food processor.
Mix with Miso paste and olive oil.
Spread the mixture on toast and bake until golden brown.
Allow to cool slightly and cut into small bites.
