While hiking through the gorge, my 6yo found some carvings.
"Look! I found some carvings! I heard about these! They were made by prehistoric people in ancient times!"
Observe the prehistoric carvings.

It's hard to be sure what the earliest recorded Arabic poetry is, but a good candidate is North Arabian inscription KRS 2453:
"It is Lord Mot's feast: the brute eats yet.
The exchange of nights and days is set.
Behold Baal sleeps. Asleep, he is not dead."

I'm very proud to share the fruits of my linguist brother Steve Bonta's 33-year effort to decipher the Indus Valley Script. Despite studying Dravidian languages out the wazoo (because it's accepted opinion that the Indus Valley civilization must have been Dravidian), he ultimately found it to be an early form of Sanskrit. https://www.academia.edu/105134798/A_Partial_Decipherment_of_the_Indus_Valley_Script_Proposed_Phonetic_and_Logographic_Values_for_Selected_Indus_Signs_and_Readings_of_Indus_Texts #IndusValley #epigraphy

The #Greeks tell us the #Arabs of #Negev worshipped #Venus, but they don’t tell us who She is. An #Arabic inscription found in #Syria mentions #Goddess of Daathen, an #Arab town in Negev, again without mentioning who She is, because of course we all know who she is.
I personally lean towards the goddess mentioned being Al-Uzza, since that what the later sources describing the #Christianization of #Palestinians mention.

New additions to Attic Inscriptions Online include a funerary stele to Theophile (c. 400-350 BCE). Originally from the Piraeus, it is now in the collection of the RD Milns Antiquities Museum at the University of Queensland. (I've been fortunate to see it there a few times in the course of my ancient history studies at UQ.)

RT by @thegrugq: This Pompeian wall displays two distinct kinds of #epigraphy we'll look at for this week's #EpigraphyTuesday. At top is a bit of ad copy in a measured and dignified script, and below it is the hasty scrawl of electoral hustling, in #Pompeii as it would be in #Naples or #Rome.

Here is the record of the Zoom session with David Stuart and David Carballo presentation of the book written by the first mentioned. Stuart is a specialist in Maya epigraphy. However he pretended to propose a new lecture of the Mexica Calendar Stone found in 1792 near the West tower of Ciudad de Mexico's cathedral.

Inomata and Sprajc hypothesis ties LiDAR and on field observations to demonstrate that the 260 day Maya calendar may have been created during the Performative period (about 1100 b.c.e), much sooner that epigraphic records proposed until now.
