The most obvious goals nowadays are the detection and/or characterization of Earth-mass planets (and smaller) orbiting stars similar-ish to the Sun, and the characterization of young exoplanets to establish their evolutionary paths. These two things are hard. Some think we kinda-maybe-barely have some of it almost under control. Some that we are still far away. #astronomy #Exoplanets #EPRV5

When we talk #EPRV, we are talking about measuring radial velocity signals at the limits of instrumental precision and stability, or buried behind layers of stellar activity, or both at the same time. #Astronomy #Exoplanets #EPRV5

It was an excellent conference that showed how far we have managed to go when measuring radial velocities but also how hard it was to overcome some of the challenges that we are facing. #Astronomy #Exoplanets #EPRV5

So last week I was at #EPRV5 in Santa Barbara. What is #EPRV5? you might ask. It is a #conference on Extreme Precision Radial Velocities. So a very specific conference on a subfield of #Exoplanet sciences. #Astronomy

In the end I didn't post about #EPRV5 while I was there, but I'll do it over the next couple days. It was a fantastic conference. I was just too busy with the conference and meeting good friends to write here.

On Thursday I had a fantastic time at #NASA #JPL with Jenn Burt and Sam Halverson, and my long time friend Heather Cegla. We visited the site, joined Heather's seminar and then met with some students and postdocs to discuss various topics related to exoplanets and stellar activity #EPRV5

It's time for conference again. #EPRV5 here we go! I have a long journey ahead and lots of work in the meantime.
