Dead Ernest: Alice Tilton was a pseudonym of Phoebe Atwood Taylor. Taylor wrote the Asey Mayo Cape Cod mysteries; Tilton did the Leonidas Witherall books.
All as soft-boiled as a poached egg, full of crazy action and humour.
Just a great fun beach read or similar, these are hard to find now. Some are appearing as amateur #epubs, like this one.

Where to find? #InternetArchive if you like brown pdfs or #libgen where there are good #epubs of them.
Thousands of great stories in these old publications.

@ghose@mastodon.gal @socjo @PNeurona @Jordi_Tell gràcies! Miraré això que dius d'enviar #epubs a la #Kindle. M'estalviaria un pas en tot el procés.

Almost all of the books that I read are #epubs.
I have a #bookshelf, but the only books on it are more like artwork than for #reading. 1st editions only. 2nd editions need not apply
Why? The books on the shelf are an altar to the authors I love.
38% through #SnowCrash Back on the tablet now that it is charged.
While I don't use it that often in this way, I'm quite impressed with #Calibre when it comes to reading #epubs using the content server. This means if I'm desperate to read an ebook on my phone I can read it in a browser rather than having to install #FBReader on it.
Obviously I have to be within WiFi range of the laptop, but it's a small price to pay, when the tablet needs charging.

Ok, something else for publishers of #ebooks that I find rather daft...
#epubs that have images of text for chapter headings, cf. attached.
Why do that? It's not even transparent, being a jpg, it can't be. Why not just use the actual text, like the rest of the book.
I have no problem with pictures for chapter headings, in fact I go out of my way to make sure they work correctly in my ebook reader app of choice, but that image as a chapter title is just DAFT!
Turns out some other stuff needed fixing too, but all done now. So I can get back to reading #AmericanGods with centered chapter headings and epigraphs.

The thing I hate... No, one of the things I hate about sorting out #epubs so that they look the way I want them is when the author or publisher creates a load of logical CSS selectors, with sensible names and everything, but then fails to use them in the correct places in the epub.
Case in point, someone kindly created a 'chapterEpigraphText' class and a 'chapterOpenerText' class in this epub, and then inconsistently used them, so I have to go through and correct their mistakes!:*
