Feminism under discussion on C-SPAN Washington Journal with Katherine Spillar of the Feminist Majority Foundation. It's time to shitcan the entire conservative social heirarchy of authority which places rich above poor, men above women, whites above nonwhites, citizens above immigrants.

Ratify the NOW!
It's long past time! Indeed it is already PASSED!
(Governor Newsome's is the 29th, but no worries, we need that one too!)

“The ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment would finally provide a constitutional remedy against sex discrimination — pushing our country one step closer to finally achieving equal justice under the law,” Schumer said on Monday. “It has been exactly 100 years since the first ERA was proposed in Congress. American women cannot afford to wait 100 more.”

Today in Labor History March 22, 1972: U.S. Congress sent the Equal Rights Amendment to the states for ratification. It failed. And to this day, women earn 84% of what men do. One of the exceptions is public education, where teachers’ unions have fought and won the right to collectively bargain salaries based on years of experience, not gender. The first ERA was introduced to Congress in 1923. The 1972 had wide bipartisan support, including by presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter, and seemed destined to pass. However, Phyllis Schlafly mobilized conservative women against the amendment, arguing that it would disadvantage housewives, make them eligible for the draft and cause divorcees to lose custody of their children. This killed the ERA in the 1970s. From 2017-2020, several states have ratified the ERA. However, it is uncertain whether these ratification are legal, since they occurred after the deadlines. Schlafly went on to become a major player in the anti-abortion and anti-feminist and anti-LGBTQ rights movements.

The would add one simple, powerful sentence to the U.S. Constitution: "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."

All genders should be equal under the law.

Tell your member of Congress: Remove the deadline for the ERA! Pass H.J. Res. 25/S.J. Res. 4 now! bit.ly/3J6YjfI

From today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on whether to remove the expiration date on the , making it eligible for ratification:

Chair Durbin: We're told the real issue is bathrooms? The fate of field hockey? Why so much fear on the other side?

Sen Padilla: For generations, women have had to fight for the most basic rights. Current laws leave women vulnerable; modernization is needed and non-negotiable. This hearing makes clear we've waited far too long.
