Difficult man to research, today. He was in Amsterdam for a few years, two children were baptized there. Then he is gone, back to England. He was declared bankrupt, probably.
Perhaps one of the daughters later married a dissenting minister in Coventry.
All questions, hardly any answers... the joy of #genealogy!

While looking for biographic information on the individuals in my #Strathclyde research project I found this amazing portrait of the Bisdom family… one of the sons in the portrait is a member of the #59men.

If my idea for the final project in the #Strathclyde postgraduate diploma program is accepted, I need to do #genealogy research on 59 men, who were officer in the English Reformed Church in #Amsterdam between 1700 and 1764. I am looking forward to it! Actually, I cannot wait to start... perhaps I can do some preparations during summer break?

Reading Alice Clare Carter’s book from 1964 about the history of the English Reformed Church in Amsterdam. Making notes for my “final project” to obtain the #Strathclyde postgraduate diploma in genealogical studies.
A tropical day in the Netherlands. Hence, sitting outside in the shade.

Back to my research on the officers of the English Reformed Church in Amsterdam. First time this year.
Have you ever visited this church? It is situated at Begijnhof (beguinage), an old, beautiful and serene area in the center of our capital.

Reading the Arbuthnott kirk session minutes 1690-1711, full of notes about the family I have been researching for a while. @ScottishGENES would be proud of me.

Now that I have created a list of church officers, I can start the #genealogy part of my research. Were they English or Dutch? Were they all related? #ERCAmsterdam
Marriage by proxy, March 1776. The groom is living in Livorno, Italy. The bride is living in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The marriage took place in the English Church in Amsterdam. #ERCAmsterdam #genealogy
Reading through the minutes of the consistory of the English Reformed Church in #Amsterdam. Not only about electing church officers, but also about drunk church members, sick ministers and a quarrel between both chambers. Such fun! #ERCAmsterdam #genealogy #history

@ScottishGENES we should talk a little bit more about this, because it would be helpful for my #Strathclyde project on the English church in Amsterdam. #ERCAmsterdam
Reading the minutes the English church in #Amsterdam, about the argument between the consistory and the deacons about the position of the "father of the hospital". #ERCAmsterdam
Browsing #jstor for articles on the English church in #Amsterdam. There seems to be very little literature on this church community. #ERCAmsterdam #genealogy #history

This weekend I spent most of my #genealogy time on the #Strathclyde diploma course (Irish records) and on my #research on the English church in #Amsterdam. Quite productive. What did you do this weekend? #ERCAmsterdam #history
