Anyone have advice on a good #ereader? I am not thrilled about a kindle and was thinking about a e-ink tablet though don’t know if that is worth it. The other option I was thinking about was getting an iPad mini and turning on grey scale, etc. to hack my way to an ereader sort of. Thanks in advance!

My old (10 years old!) Kindle is becoming so glitchy it’s just a nuisance, so am looking to replace it. Except I discover that models are now being sold at two different prices depending on whether you buy one ‘with ads’ or ‘without ads’. Eh? When did that become a thing?

And can anyone advise if paying extra (quite a lot extra) for without ads, is worth it?

For anyone who has been unable to connect their #Zoomax #BRAILLE #eReader to their #iPhone since sometime after the initial release of #iOS16 I finally was able to do it. I have tried so many things, but it finally worked after it occurred to me to reset the #Zoomax before trying. Hoping this can help another frustrated #Zoomax user.

I wrote a blog post about my experience reading on Amazon's Fire HD 8 tablet.

The Fire HD 8 is hobbled by Amazon's proprietary version of Android, which means that it's not great for general use as a tablet. However, it works well enough as an ereader now that I've found workarounds for some of the limitations of the various apps. I do regret not spending more money and getting an 8" Samsung tablet.

Whenever I finish a library book on my #Kobo #ereader, Kobo will offer to sell me that book at a discounted price

A better play would be to offer me a different title from that same author. Just saying.

I'm a fan of the Malabar #font my #Kobo came with for #reading. But w/ #KOreader, I can't seem to use any of the included system fonts unless they're free to begin with (or maybe it uses its own fonts entirely). Malabar isn't one of those. Looking at instructions for loading custom fonts for KOreader, it suggests Volkorn. Volkorn font has a lot of what I like about Malabar, especially the medium font, & is a great alternative. If you're looking for something similar, I recommend it.

After having a #Kobo #ereader for a few years, I finally got curious enough to see what #KOreader is. My main interest in it was the additional features it has for #reading #PDFs over #Nickel, the reading application Kobo readers come with by default. FYI, if you have a Libra 2 like I do, or another device that's had some hardware quirks w/ KOreader according to the installation guide, grab a nightly version until a new stable is released. The nightlies have changes that seem to fix them. 🧵

I just picked up a Sony PRS-650 ereader off Kijiji for $20 and I'm absolutely giddy!

Works great, battery is solid, and it has a damn STYLUS! It even has physical buttons for home, page turning, options, and zoom. I couldn't ask for anything more 😊

If the only thing I need to compromise on is that I need to manually add books onto the reader, I'll take that ten times out of ten.
