And we should probably use a different emoji for the Fine Guidance Sensor 😉 . #ESAEuclid really knows where it's looking at. And it's also pointing where it's supposed to be pointing. But not quite with the accuracy and stability it needs to. So we should probably not use 🧭 , but rather ✨.

#ESAEuclid's issues with the Fine Guidance Sensor 🧭 are being worked on by industry 👨🏽‍🏭 👷🏿‍♀️ , with tests first on ground before upload to the #Euclid spacecraft 🛰️.

#ESAEuclid needs some further work its Fine Guidance Sensor software. The FGS system is a set of detectors and software that keeps the #Euclid spacecraft accurately pointing at the desired location. 👇🏿 👈🏽 👉 There is work on this going on and since the pointing accuracy was not as good as required, #Euclid temporarily stopped its Performance Verification phase to get this sorted out. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And no, we can't send goodies to every follower, as much as we wanted to. However, over the next years #ESAEuclid will provide science-grade data for 15,000 square degrees of the sky to scientists and the public. To everyone, for everyone!

That's 1,000,000 (one million!) times the area of our First Light images 😳, and a total of about 30,000,000,000,000 (3x10^13) science pixels worth of night sky! 😯

#ESAEuclid has successfully completed its #commissioning. A collaborative effort of #ESA, the @ec_euclid, and industry partners established communication 📡, turned on and checked both instruments, focussed the #telescope 🔭, and tested spacecraft pointing 🛰️.

This is now complete, and the teams have moved on to "performance verification", observing science-like sequences and calibration images.

No, much smaller: these are traces by #CosmicRays ⚡, hitting #Euclid's #VIS and #NISP detectors directly, depositing energy and electric charges in their pixels.
