Does anyone know of any FOSS multi-platform text expanders other than #Espanso (https://espanso.org)?

Espanso is great, but compared to Rocket Typist, it's missing some features (repeating inputs when using forms, placeholder text or help text) and it's not exactly reliable on macOS (for example, sometimes I'll get a "v" instead of the text I intended to paste).

I'm willing to tolerate some of that to use FOSS, but I'm also open to experimenting with other software.

**How to install:**

sudo dnf copr enable eclipseo/espanso
sudo dnf copr install espanso espanso-wayland

**For #Wayland, you have to run first after install:**

sudo setcap "cap_dac_override+p" $(which espanso-wayland)

to allow espanso-wayland to grab the keys.

Is there any way to customize #Espanso’s search bar UI? I don’t know, maybe with themes like Rofi does on Linux? I really like the software, but I wish the search bar didn’t feel… so raw and out of place.

Things you can do on #Windows that I have not (yet) been able to do on #Mac:
- #AutoHotKey can do systemwide txt replacement (so can #Espanso) but it can also sense and act on all system windows (move them, click a button in them, resize them) immediately upon their appearance
- Taskbar is there by default - shows all apps AND their child windows for instant selection, no DWM required, uBar is not a perfect replacement
- Can resize settings instead of a vertical fixedwidth panel
- #Outlook rules can color emails based on criteria. Yes this is an MS limitation, not Apple
- #ShoveIt auto shunts offscreen windows back onscreen
- Zhorn #Stickies is far better than any Mac sticky app I've found. Can "attach" a sticky to a window so that every time window appears, sticky also appears. Can set a reminder so when time arrives, sticky pops up and jiggles/chimes
- apps generally have FAR better notification popups

Today I will be looking at #Magnet and #DockExposé. The journey continues.

Btw, I use #Espanso to insert dates and times globally in my desktop OS. It even works in the file system. I wish it was available on mobile.

If you haven’t got #Espanso on your Mac, get it. It’s really nice. And free. Hoping one day for a full blown Mac version of AutoHotKey but this will certainly do in the meantime.

Olay, #Espanso is making using this Mac just a little more palatable - ie closer to Windows.

For example:

.. will turn ddd into 20230606 instantly, anywhere, in any app. I enter dates constantly so this is massive. And exactly like autohotkey on Win. Yay. The Macbook officially earns its yellow belt in usefulness-kwon-do.

@qwxlea I do use a few keyboard macros--though I use #espanso for most of my typing automation.
I am an accountant, so I make good use of those extra keys--though the space savings would be nice.

Resultat: selten so einen unkomplizierten Wechsel von einer Software zur anderen erlebt. Ich habe dann auch direkt mal ein paar Euro in die Kaffeekasse von #espanso eingeworfen. Großartiges Tool.

#Espanso bietet mir jetzt 1:1 die selbe Funktionalität wie #Typinator, inklusive Anbindung an eigene Skripte. Sogar ein Suchfenster gibt es – was sich natürlich auch über den von Typinator gewohnten Shortcut öffnet.
