A slightly awkward nomenclature in a game where there are already players at the table, but when this was just a novel to was too good to not use. A “proposition player” is an independent contractor paid by the “house” to start games. They get paid to gamble without risking their money, but they don't get to keep any winnings. This section was inspired by the 1984 RPG Psi World by Fantasy Games Unlimited. Psi World was the first game I ever saw to feature opposing factions as player options. You could play psychics on the run, or psychic hunting government agents. I used that dynamic with Loose cards and Counter Intelligence and added Unsanctioned and Rogue as gradients in between

If I remember right, this came out of an article about the changing rule of masculinity in the 20th century, using James Bond and Jason Borne as the before and after. This was before all the MRA stuff went mainstream, instead, it reflected upon men and the changing nature of labor.
