The race to put satellites into orbit from Western Europe is heating up.

Just days after a failed UK launch, Sweden inaugurated its own new launch site in the Arctic, from which it hopes to see the first satellite blast off by March 2024.

European Commission president von der Leyen, Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Swedish prime minister Kristersson cut the ribbon during a ceremony at the Esrange spaceport, about 40 km from the town of Kiruna.
