"#WestEnd Blues" is a multi-strain #twelvebarBlues composition by #JoeKingOliver. It is most commonly performed as an #instrumental, although it has #lyrics added by #ClarenceWilliams. King Oliver and his Dixie Syncopators made the first recording for #BrunswickRecords on June 11, 1928. Clarence Williams later added lyrics to the instrumental tune. He recorded the song several times in 1928, first with vocalist #EthelWaters, then with Irene Mims.

"#StormyWeather" is a 1933 #torchSong written by #HaroldArlen and #TedKoehler. #EthelWaters first sang it at #TheCottonClub night club in #Harlem in 1933 and recorded it that year, and in the same year it was sung in London by #ElisabethWelch and recorded by #FrancesLangford. Also in 1933, for the first time the entire floor revue from Harlem's Cotton Club went on tour, playing theatres in principal cities.

December 22, 1949: "The Member of the Wedding," a play by Carson McCullers (adapted from her own novel), opened at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. The show starred Ethel Waters, Julie Harris and the 7 year-old Brandon deWilde. The director was Harold Clurman.
