I love riding a motorcycle, but it's not a super convenient form of transportation for short distances and I hate bothering my neighbors with noise late at night. I wanted to find an electric vehicle that cost <$5k. For various reasons I crossed e-bikes and e-skateboards off the list, which left me looking at electric unicycles, otherwise called “EUCs”.

I ended up buying an InMotion V13 Challenger from Alien Rides in San Francisco. (←Fantastic retailer) This thing is flipping huge! It's like learning to drive at 16 using a U-Haul moving van. Slowly but surely though, I am beginning to get the hang of riding this wheel. It is incredible amounts of fun.

I’m confident enough that I can roll to and from my local park where practicing on artificial turf allows me to take risks I'd otherwise be too scared to take on asphalt. In fact, today I even rolled to a taqueria to grab a burrito for lunch. I need more practice to be out in traffic, but hopefully I'll get to that point soon. #EUC

Huh, I didn't think riding an #euc was much exercise, but my Fitbit and my absolutely zonking out after my ride last night disagree. I guess being on your feet and shifting your weight around isn't nothing.

Test ride most of the way downtown and back by #euc.

Worked pretty well, and I'm gradually getting comfortable at higher speeds. I *am* maybe at an awkward middle speed right now where I'm a little faster than bicycle traffic, but slower than car traffic. For now I'm sticking to bike lanes and just being careful to give bikes priority.

Another #geohashing consolation prize. Perfect weather for a little #euc ride, though!

I've seen a lot of interesting data points around things like PCaaS and device consolidation (one survey showed 90% of orgs were interested in smartphones with docks!).

I used to be down on the idea of total endpoint consolidation, but a lot has changed since the "nirvana phone" concept appeared in the early 2010s. Maybe it's time to revisit.

Here's what I'm thinking about as I plan for research in 2023.

My #euc shows voltage :) #EUCWorld app shows "%" and voltage..... Generally I use 15-25wh/km which I think is fairly efficient?
