The #bees were all over this #redfloweringgum in #clayton #Australia yesterday.
Clumps of red bloom were bright even in the overcast and cool conditions.

These two magnificent #gumtrees, two different species, are growing side by side in #Clayton #Australia.
In the main, one is darker and the other light in trunk appearance and so pretty in their simplicity and magnificence.

A large in stature red flowering gum stands proud in an #Oakleigh #Australia reserve, for all the passing motorists to marvel at. I was most definitely one of them.

Flowering Eucalypts have brought all the insects out. On a short walk on Thursday I found 9 insect species I hadn't seen here before including three native bees.

#Gumtrees are my favourite large growing mass within the flora world.
They’re known as #eucalypts and csiro.com.au reports that there are 934 species of #eucalypt trees native to #Australia.
Gums typically grow to a height of 45 m (148 ft) but may sometimes only be a stunted shrub. Alternatively under ideal conditions, they can grow as tall as 90–100 m (300–330 ft).
IMO, they’re an emphatic statement of strength and resilience.
Gums can withstand prolonged drought conditions and still stand tall and present happy and healthy. Their trunks and branches are normally covered in a thin layer of white bark that sheds annually around this time of year (summer time).
Their leaves vary in size and shape, depending on the species.
My favourite are the shape as seen in these photos taken a couple of days ago near #Melbournes #Botanicgardens. They’re long (elongated), 10+cm (4+ inch) long and 1.5-2.0cm (3/4 inch) in width at their widest point.
Their leaves often possess a slight curved appearance, are usually deep dark green and clumped together, facing downward toward the ground, hanging from their branches.
This specific tree caught my eye. Its trunk is mottled with varying shades of whites, browns and greys. It is also pitted and indented along its entire length.
It really is a beauty

This unique tree is a #caesia (#SilverPrincess), from the #eucalypt family. It is native to the south-west of #WesternAustralia.
It typically grows to a height of 2 to 14 metres (6.6 to 45.9 ft) and the young branches are shiny red, covered with a waxy bluish, white bloom.
I have seen a few of these throughout the weeks during high sunshine and they almost look silver as the light hits their surface.
They flower during the colder months (mid year in Australia) - the flowers have pink stamens with yellow anthers on the tip.
They also have fruit (the bell shaped woody bulb) as pictured.
Leaves are elongated and these ones look happy and healthy.

I thought this was some kind of small, elongated #eucalypt leaf (#gumtree, #sapling), however the flora ID app I refer to on ocassions tells me it’s something totally different.

Located within the heart of a public space where many indigenous ceremonies are held, in #Southbank #melbourne
Its white / silver fruit (#gumnuts) are the highlight, and yet many of its thin branches exhibit the same shimmer.
