#JohnFord ‘s #EugeneONeill scripted #LongVoyageHome offers many seafaring stuff: Lusty native ladies on a foreign shore, war time paranoia & Odyssean journey of many sea men. Greg Toland's photography alone is worthy of admission. You can trace its visual/thematic influence on many later films: The Last Detail, The Master. It features young #JohnWayne as a Swedish farm boy who always ends up at the sea after drinking games w/ his mates. The rugged men camaraderie is the heart of the film.

3 and 1/2 hours of O'Neill's #theicemancometh. Directed by #sidneylumet. Some of the best filmed theater ever with stellar performances. 3 and 1/2 hours and I was lost in the play and forgot about time and its passing. As with many artists, #eugeneoneill has a tendency to tell the same story over and over again, packaging it in different settings. And that's all right. Slightly different dimensions are explored. This one is about as rough as it gets. The murder of hope.
