I installed the for identifying today. In under 2 minutes of Sound ID it found 6 birds around my garden, even with traffic and other noises in the background. 🤩

I confirmed those four birds where I'm very sure that they are correct.

It can play back the parts of the that are from a certain bird, so that I can maybe learn the sounds myself. :masto_reading:

The only thing that's a bit annoying is that it displays the bird names in English. The whole app and the description texts of the birds (from ) are in German, just the names of the birds (kind of the core thing here) are in English.

Now I just need something that identifies insects and spiders for me.

I know that these are some of the most common, boring birds available, but hey, we're in a large city here and it was just the first short test! 🏙️ 🏘️🐦🦆🦢🦅🦖

Just passing by.

Here's a collard dove flying past to the bird feeder.

"The Eurasian Collared-Dove’s species name, decaocto, comes from Greek mythology. Decaocto was a servant girl transformed into a dove by the gods to escape her unhappy treatment; the dove’s mournful cry recalls her former life." - allaboutbirds.org

I'm going over there.

I had this photo of a collard dove in the wrong folder; it was with white winged doves.

This photo would be great, if I were a bit closer when I took it and there was sky in the background, instead of a dirty fence. But any time you catch a dove flying is a good moment to share.

"With a flash of white tail feathers and a flurry of dark-tipped wings, the Eurasian Collared-Dove settles onto phone wires and fence posts to give its rhythmic three-parted coo. This chunky relative of the Mourning Dove gets its name from the black half-collar at the nape of the neck. A few Eurasian Collared-Doves were introduced to the Bahamas in the 1970s. They made their way to Florida by the 1980s and then rapidly colonized most of North America." - allaboutbirds.org
