[Moconomy] summarises how super wealthy backed think tanks and the ERG (party within a party) steered #Brexit after the #EURef to become the disastrous hard Brexit that the UK has today and which only a minority of wealthy elitist special interest groups will benefit from

However, action through this afternoon has been very strong: lots of very positive words and coordination of positions, with no-one stepping on anyone else's toes
Hasn't been a presser that chummy since, well, ever in post-#EURef period
Great stuff by @robfordmancs
Note that the vagueness of the 'pro-EU/remoan/Road back to Brussels' position is both a strength (holds together disparate positions) and a weakness (makes charge of going against #EUref 'will of the people' easy to stick)

@RobinKey @LibDemCampaigner Early adopter of Facebook and early quitter - long before The #EURef.
Many others globally do still use Facebook regularly though, and Meta's other products.
I doubt that Clegg has much of an opinion on Corbyn's niche notoriety these days.
Plus รงa changeโฆ the political cannibalism continues. Liars of 2016 #EUref call betrayal
Worth remembering what Farage/Tice actually want - they cheered Truss/Kwartengโs budget!

Why do so many recent #LibDems candidates appear to have had very illiberal views in the near past (or even the present)? ๐ค
Here's the newly-elected Liberal Democrats Surrey County Councillor, Harry Boparai, on an ITV show (broadcast as a debate on The #EURef) in 2016, blaming The EU for uncontrolled immigration.
3. Parties other than The #LibDems and The Tories didn't make it clear to their supporters, that #GE2019 was in fact a de-facto #FinalSay second #EURef.
Not to give The Tories any credit, but at least their campaign slogan to #GetBrexitDone was clear.

RT @A_J_Cameron: Interesting @scottish_future event this evening. Practical and positive ideas from @willie_rennie and @davidmartinmep, ably chaired by @EddieBarnes23, with fascinating points from the audience - many of whom had moved towards independence after #EUref but now more firmly pro-UK.

@AlexSalmond & SNP knew there was a pending #Brexit vote, yet rushed to a #ScotRef prior to that. How do his supporters feel the land would lie now if he had waited until after the #EURef? Everyone still happy with that decision? ๐ค๐คจ
If you need proof they knew the EU vote was on the cards - see any of @NicolaSturgeon in debates against those saying we'd be out the EU in the event of a Yes vote. Fae the @BBCNews themselves (Jan, 2013) - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-21211931

Clegg also suggested way back in 2003 (while he was a serving MEP) that The UK should have an #EURef.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2003/oct/15/politicalcolumnists.eu
And he was right.
The #LibDems version may have required a supermajority; allowed EU Nationals living in The UK to vote; allowed under-16s to vote, etc.
You really don't have to search too hard, to find contemporaneous reports of The #LibDems' opposition to The Tories' plans to hold an #EURef.
Here's a report from 2015, towards the end of the coalition.
#ToryEnablers? ๐
The coalition govt. put into law that an #EURef COULD happen in the future (under appropriate conditions)...
NOT that it definitely WOULD (or SHOULD) for no good reason.
Note Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg's comments, in January 2013.
When MPs voted in 2011, on whether to hold an #EURef, The #LibDems overwhelmingly (98%) voted AGAINST this.
The climate was toxic with anti-EU rhetoric, just three years after The Lisbon Treaty.
Surprisingly, 100% of @TheGreenParty voted FOR an #EUref
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2011/oct/25/mp-voted-for-eu-referendum
Nick Clegg was clear that holding an #EURef in 2008 (at the time of The Lisbon Treaty) would have silenced any calls for our leaving, for a generation.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/feb/25/eu.liberaldemocrats
Ukip's main argument was Gordon Brown's signing of the treaty without the people having #FinalSay.
Clegg wanted an #EURef in 2008, as Gordon Brown didn't offer one when signing The Lisbon Treaty.
The newsprint media climate was MUCH more EU-friendly, a decade ago.
It would have been safe to offer an #EURref AT THAT TIME - and The #LibDems would have campaigned to #Remain.
