Been away for a bit, but I’ve been listening to the podcast while I’m away. Their third series is about Folk Horror recorded 2018. The first episodes discussed Wickerman, Blood on Satan’s Claws, and Witchfinder General.

Some of their picks surprised me: BWP, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Elements of period, lore, belief, and community seem essential to me.

How do you define ?

@jkonline The is probably the greatest podcast I’ve heard. The depth to which they delve into each horror sub-genre makes the homework of watching the movies they discuss ahead of listening a real treat if you’ve never seen them before.

I need to watch , but it’s currently unavailable to stream anywhere. Oddly, the only way to watch right now from streaming services is through rental.

@shutyerneck The only reason I’d even considered the idea is a discussion during the first series on Slashers on the podcast. They make an interesting argument for it as the evolution of the slasher.

@d4doome Oh my god this film is good. It really hit home with this particular middle-aged man! I’d never heard of it until quite recently when it was mentioned on the podcast on the Body Horror season. Thought-provoking, and with an ending not easily forgotten.

@john_idol I would likely never have watched it had it not been for its mention in podcast.

Every episode discusses some number of movies from a genre. Early in the podcast, this is part 6 of the discussion.

I’m working my way through the .

As I listen to each episode, I’m going to watch the movie(s) being discussed that I’ve not yet seen.

I’m on Slashers Pt 6 which discusses ’s (1980). I’d love opinions. Please mark anything with spoilers that may contain them.

I’m listening to the third episode of the . There’s a great discussion with about music and film music.

There’s a great discussion of the intentional exclusivity of classical composition and how film scores have changed those dynamics.

to the . I started on episode 1 and just learned that the etymology of the genre stems from the BBFC’s desire to mark the films as undesirable. From

In 1935, the President of the BBFC Edward Shortt, wrote "although a separate category has been established for these [horrific] films, I am sorry to learn they are on the increase…”

In this respect, the genre is defined in antagonism, much like the genre.
