Nietzsche’s will to power is misleading (even if not singularly interpreted) similarly as Dawkins’s selfish gene. While our understanding of N’s meaning is still in progress, we deny the bio-evolutionary implications. Certainly hoops could be jumped through to spin the claim but we’d argue the desire for power, however favorably portrayed, is secondary or tertiary to other more biological, rather than psychological, drives.

"Blind natural selection, however, makes them behave rather as if they were purposeful, and it has been convenient, as a shorthand, to refer to genes in the language of purpose." (Richard Dawkins, The Selfish Gene.
Our current moral anti realism theory, in part: Our blind and ignorant evolutionary natures makes us believe and behave as if some things, actions, and behaviors are ethical and some are not. 1/2

@rmkelly 2/2 Long short, I take the compassionate POV of crime and violence, that they are due to "mental disorders" & need treatment. Rationally and logically, to harm, oppress, or exploit others is a symptom of disease. @philosophy

@rmkelly I approach our sense for justice (moral culpability) from an evolutionary psychology POV. We are hardwired by evolution to seek justice by an irrational process and in a reality where kill or be killed prevailed. It is not fully natural to be rational and logical. @philosophy 1/2

What do you call the metaethical position that says morality is an evolved trait that helps humans coordinate at scale, and so good/evil is to the group roughly what pain/pleasure is to the individual?

The Conversation: “People don’t mate randomly – but the flawed assumption that they do is an essential part of many studies linking genes to diseases and traits”

This article should be seen as a shot across the bow to a lot of folks in the and / / "human biodiversity" wings of , which are beloved by certain researchers. They disregard the world's complexity when that complexity violates their assumptions.
