Oh my god I'm actually working on #orchestral #excerpts... I never enjoyed these back when I was auditioning, but today I felt like bringing some back out. Lots of work to be done, haha, but it's weirdly familiar to be playing them again.

Today was the scherzo from #midsummerNightsDream, mainly because my breath control has gone out the window and I know this will fix me, haha.

Here's the movement, it's about 5 minutes of #music, and if you don't know it, it's DEFINITELY worth a listen ^_^. The flute solo is near the end. You'll notice it, haha.

Exactly. #Canadian #politicians and the #dinosaur Canadian #media want to have their #cake and eat it too: "If you carry #excerpts of our #articles, you must #pay. But you must keep carrying excerpts of our articles."

We gave them the choice of (a) carry the excerpts and pay ("link tax"), or (b) stop carrying them. There is no third option.

We can't validly criticize them for choosing one or the other; the choice was forced on them by us.

How, exactly, are they not being socially responsible?

They previously posted #excerpts of #news, with #links back to the sites that those excerpts come from. This is fair use under #copyright.

Canada passed a law saying that if they want to continue doing this, they have to #pay the sites they're linking to.

So now they have a #choice: keep linking and pay, or stop linking. There is no third option.

Why is it wrong to exercise that choice? It was forced on them.

She’s muttering to herself whilst she fiddles with a large piece of driftwood, which appears to have speared the back of her shirt. ‘There’s something caught… but I can’t see to get it free. I tried to take my tunic off, but that made it worse, and now there’s wood in my hair, and I’m thoroughly stuck.’ Her laughter is a fresh peal that lifts my spirits even further. I put down the basket and lean over the counter.
‘Is the wood expensive?’

The shells click and jingle like bells as the hoops sway in the breeze from the door. It’s so pretty, so perfect.
‘Can I help you?’ says a disembodied voice.
‘Where are you?’ I shout. ‘I've some wool to exchange for beeswax?’
‘Oh!’ A head pops up. ‘Hang on, I’m tangled down here… could you lend a hand?’
I look over the top of the smoothly burnished counter to find a girl, not much older than me, seated on the floor

I stop in surprise and sheer delight. The shop is a faerie tale come to life, a delicate world entirely different from the drab outside. Lightweight circlets strung with cobwebs of the purest, eye-searing white dangle and swing from low, blackened oak rafters, their silky threads flecked with shiny seashells, iridescent insect wings and fish scales, fringed with dried lichen and moss, spiky seeds, all manner of tiny things.
