The COVID-19 pandemic is definitively over, according to two recent reports focused on the same metric.

That metric is excess deaths, a measure of the difference between the number of deaths that occurred through the pandemic years, beginning in March 2020, and the number that would be expected in a nonpandemic year, based on data from earlier years.

The focus on this study was how many more Republicans died than Democrats after vaccines became available.

What I have yet to see a study on is how excess deaths skyrocketed across the board after vaccines became available and everyone RIPPED OFF THEIR and went about life as usual.

Check the diagram.

Nobody talks about that.

The DIFFERENCE, making it "Excess Deaths" using:

2019, the old normal is 94,082, nowhere close to zero

2022, The New Normal™ is -75,854.. LESS than expected.. A negative excess deaths number

I'm not going to try to figure out exactly what dates they are now using for their new normal, but this exercise has made it crystal clear how easy it is to make it look like this pandemic is all over when in fact

PEOPLE ARE STILL DYING

Here are the actual deaths in 2023

288,988 Jan
248,544 Feb
267,700 Mar
249,353 Apr
242,881 May

A total of 1,297,466 in 152 days so that's 8,536 day

If we take the yearly Expected Death, divide by 365 (days in a year) and multiply by 152 (days in Jan-May) we get:

1,203,384 expected deaths using 2019 mortality rate

1,373,320 expected deaths using 2022 mortality rates

Put the 2022 US population into the Mortality Rate Calculator, then the total deaths for 2022, and the Mortality Rate is .0097

!!!

Multiply .0097 by the current 2023 US population and the "Expected Deaths" this year is

3,297,966 or 9,035 a day

Multiply the 2019 Mortality Rate (.0085) by the 2023 population (339,996,573)
and the "Expected Deaths" this year (2023) is:

2,889,970 or 7917.7 per day.

BUT...

If they have decided that we are now fully immersed in "The New Normal™", the Mortality Rate to use would be a COVID year, say, 2022:

...

To find the mortality rate for 2019, the last year we could possibly call normal, for example, I'll use this handy Mortality Rate Calculator omnicalculator.com/health/mort

Here's a screenshot of that. So the Mortality Rate for 2019 is .0085

If they are using, say, 2019 (pre-Covid) as the "normal" expected deaths, that makes sense and indicates that we expect to get back to that normal...

EXPECTED DEATHS
Multiply the mortality rates to the number of persons.

MORTALITY RATE:
The ratio between deaths and individuals in a specified population and during a particular time period.

Now that we have that out the way, let's crunch some numbers.

Starting with Mortality Rates. Here's a chart of the US population by year and a chart of total deaths by any cause in the US by year.

The "New Normal™" has arrived! Quietly. Silently. Shhhh

What's with the sudden change of excess deaths to nearly zero according to the NYT. Are there really less deaths??

First, some important definitions:

EXCESS DEATHS:
Excess deaths are typically defined as the difference between the *observed* numbers of deaths in specific time periods and *expected* numbers of deaths in the same time periods...

@jessicawildfire has been trying to get out the word on all the tricks being played now, which claim excess deaths are "back to normal" pre-pandemic levels. She's done the math here.

"Magically, my own spreadsheet math corresponds with The Economist and The OECD. We’re looking at an excess mortality rate that’s still considerably higher than anything we saw before the pandemic started."

This is the article I woke up to this morning:

"A Positive Covid Milestone"

"In a sign that the pandemic really is over, the total number of Americans dying each day is no longer historically abnormal."

The headline implies the article will be about excess deaths being near zero, which is different from deaths from or with being near zero, yet the latter is what the article discusses.

More from the "end of the pandemic"...

*snaps fingers repeatedly*

Sorry, you were zoning out there.

So according to the New York Times, during the past few months, excess deaths have fallen "almost to zero"...

Excuse me??

Almost zero??

Excess deaths are deaths not attributed to any specific cause.

There have ALWAYS been excess deaths.

I can't be there only one who finds this suspicious. Time to dive deeper...
