I lost a friend last week. #exJW, who was hit by a lot of ill health and pain. The past five years have been hard and whilst his leaving is sad, I'm glad he isn't suffering. But 52 is far too young to be saying goodbye. He gave the best years of his life to an organisation that shunned him the instant he started to question. A few years of freedom to find out who he was, curtailed by pain mobility issues.

At the weekend we had a #FaithToFaithless in-person meetup. Great to see the #exFundamentalists of different varieties swapping stories and understanding what it is like to leave a high-demand religion. #exJW

After testimony during the public hearing earlier this week - which included statements from those concerned about (and intimately affected by) the policies and practices of #JehovahsWitnesses around CSA - a #WashingtonState House committee progressed #SB5280 with changes that would make every #JW Elder in the state a #MandatoryReporter if the bill is passed into law.

Yep, @Chanclatrix and I are both in #Japan so it's even funnier. They rang my bell several times in the past. I got away with a simple "no thank you" a couple of times, but they persisted on the third visit:

💁🏻‍♀️(in Japanese): "May we come back with an English speaker who used to live in New York?" (presumably Bethel)

@I_Choose_Exile I was 4th generation on my mom's side. My dad was a convert in the early 70's but was perpetually getting df and reinstated. I was a crappy JW. The Bible never made much sense to me. I learned to read at 3 and ended up thinking way too much. I left shortly after turning 18 when I looked around my hall at my congregation and realized I'd rather eat glass than live with those people one more second. Forever with the lot of them sounded like a curse. I never regretted it.
