My family can relate to this article.
( #Diaspora #guilt refers to a #culpability that #expatriates feel when living away from their country. When their nation trudges through periods of #crisis and #instability , expatriates witnessing their nation suffer, unable to help, suffer in solidarity with their countrymen; while some feel helpless, others are empowered to cause change.)

Regarding Japan's longstanding ban on dual #citizenship, an Asahi Shimbun editorial https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14846327 is fine as far as it goes, but it focuses on the type of #Japanese #expatriates in #Europe who are suspected of changing #nationality to evade taxes. To us #immigrants in #Japan, it is more important that our half-Japanese "haafu" kids and others should not feel forced to choose one cultural allegiance simply because #biculturalism is not recognized or understood here. See "Dual Nationality in Japan: Learning to Love Ambiguity" at https://www.academia.edu/38566597 or https://shingetsunewsagency.com/2019/03/17/dual-nationality-in-japan-learning-to-love-ambiguity
The law is not enforced in Japan, so it can be like a joke that vaccination makes three passports. Our happy-go-lucky sons have no conception of what it would be like to be an outsider or to agonize over their cultural #identity.
Once I tried to explain "What it Means to Be Bicultural" - at https://www.academia.edu/36008217 or https://www.childresearch.net/papers/language/2010_02_01.html
How about this issue in your country or region?

I’ve been flying the St Andrew’s Cross Scottish flag on my house since that independence referendum in… 2013 (?).
Should Scotland goes independent, I am totally going to look into what it takes to move there, not just visit. But a visit, first, of course! #scotland #scottishhighlands #expatriates
