The 3 sisters volcanos weren't like the traditional ones you think of though, erupting massive fireball explosions up into the sky and raining down spires of ash. These were "fissure eruptions".

Volcanic magma leaked out down across faults and fissures in the earth's core, leaving behind relatively straight lines of basalt "cones" or hills.

There are thousands of ancient petroglyphs on these rocks.
