@sil the #TalkBack #accessibility app on #Android helped me no end last year when I couldn't read for two weeks. It's really great that someone created that before I needed it, but I was very glad to get normal #eyesight back again. 🝙🦇s to apps that break under TalkBack, though!

People with multiple #eyesight issues, what would you suggest for me?

I’m shortsighted, have astigmatism and now I’m adding presbyopia to my list of issues.

I spend a large chunk of my day on the computer, so I’ve been reading about progressive or bifocals not being the best for it. Is that true?

I’m currently trying contacts with readers, but it’s annoying to have to carry the readers or 2 pairs of glasses everywhere.

Is there an alternative?

In hindsight, it’s a HUGE tell about how #Apple really feels about the state of #VisionPro that no execs were photographed using it. Good Morning America had a super brief clip of Robin Roberts using it in fully immersed mode, but we’ve not seen a real life #EyeSight demo.

It's pretty common for for-profit companies to do things that hurt people with disabilities. I have terrible eyesight. Thank God I'm not blind (I am without my glasses), but I can identify with people with other people who have eyesight problems. Apparently there are third party apps that help people see posts on sites like Reddit, but the people in charge over there want to get rid of such third party apps. #disabilities #reddit #eyesight

I’ll have to reserve judgment until I actually try the new #VisionPro but what I will say is that the device looks painfully dorky in a true Californian ‘I spend money on things #Apple tells me to’ kind of way. Even the launch felt like a TV Shop presentation, carefully choreographed with no humanity on display, like a #BlackMirror parody of a launch, built by an AI. And #EyeSight is proper uncanny valley level stuff.

Tech may be impressive, but the whole thing made me feel hollowed out.

One more thing: Apple's $3,499 Vision Pro AR headset is finally here https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/05/apple-headset/ Can it run The vOICe web app in its browser and let it access the #passthrough camera view? #AR/#VR/#a11y; the use of the term (reverse) #EyeSight here would be ironic for #blind users
