Yes I skipped 5 because it was worse.

In VR I can use single eye tracking reliably but dual eye leads to so many crossed eye moments.

Our paper "GEAR: Gaze-enabled augmented reality for human activity recognition" was recently published at #ETRA2023 👀

We used a Microsoft #HoloLens2 to recognize human activities based on #EyeTracking data. In our repo (https://github.com/Interactions-HSG/GEAR/tree/main/GEAR-4-HAR), we provide three ML classification solutions, the corresponding scripts incl. Unity app, and datasets. Feel free to use them as teaching material or in developing similar #AR solutions!

Ugh need to switch to the open source framework for eye tracking, can't get HTC's proprietary old one to run for whatever reason. Works on one PC, does not on another. At least it stopped crashing Unity. Instead, now Motive is crashing whenever I try to start recording and because our license is for an old version, support probably won't talk to me. At a basic level, eye gaze can indicate our general level of interest in what we look at. Eye movements can be used to infer a person’s age and gender, as well as medical conditions, fatigue, or other impairments. While there may be other ways for companies to learn this information, gleaning these insights from eye data is problematic because of how involuntary many of our eye movements can be.

We often don’t realize how little control over our eyes that we have. Companies may argue that eye tracking should be treated as analogous to mouse movements, but we don’t realize how little control over our vision we truly have. Eye movements are also harder to disguise. For instance, my mouse was hovering over my desktop menu when I originally typed this sentence. My eyes? They’ve not just fixated on the last letter I typed, but have darted over to my television and plenty of other places I cannot consciously recall."

@elm Interesting approach. Though, I have mixed feelings. I agree to all the benefits that you’ve pointed out. But one pro is a cons as well, i.e. speeding up the designer’s work! Each (fairly slow) #usability eye-tracking session provides also time for the designer to take the perspective of the user. It makes her ponder what’s going on at the user’s mental model. You should not skip this step by a streamlined process that looks and feels like #eyetracking, but which is just an aid. #chi2023
