US Americans living abroad don’t really have Congressional representation. Representatives just don’t care about people who don’t reside in their districts. As such, US tax law assumes emigrants are either tax evaders or terrorists.
Here is an example of how FACTA is fucking over a European who had the misfortune of being birthed in the US and now cannot open a bank account in Sverige.

Lots happening around the five-year anniversary of the #GDPR !
1. Belgium takes a stand on the #GDPR and transfer of US citizen/EU resident data under #FACTA. As someone in this category who has faced countless challenges under the US citizen-based taxation system (only one of two countries in the world with this policy), I'm especially excited to see this. GDPR rights should apply to and be enforced for ALL EU residents, regardless of US passport status.

IKEA agreed to pay $24.25 million to resolve claims it printed receipts with too many payment card digits, a violation of privacy.
The settlement benefits consumers who used a debit or credit card at any IKEA retail store between Oct. 18, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2019, who received an electronically printed receipt displaying the first six and last four digits of the payment card number.
