“Republicans now confess they think fewer people should vote...

They’ve opposed extension of the Voting Rights Act. How can they be pro-democracy but anti-voting? Few, if any, of these candidates have been pushed to explain their disdain for democracy”

Facts are not always neutral.

Scales are meant to measure the weight of facts, not to be kept in an artificial state of perfect balance.

Facts are used to determine the guilt or innocence of someone in a criminal trail.

Neutral is NOT the same as factual.

The DOJ should NOT strive to be neutral, it should strive to accurately weigh the facts.

Journalism should do the same.

In this case, treating reliable sources and known liars as worthy of equal consideration makes the media complicit in Russian deception.

"1 - Do not countenance the ‘big lie.’

No matter how many times Trump says it, it is the media’s job to correct and rebut the lie... If that means getting stuck on the same question with a candidate or cutting off an interview, so be it...

As soon as reporters decide to “let it go” (i.e., not interject or interrupt recitation of the “big lie”), election denial becomes a normal position, not a heinous attack on truth & democracy."

"The media must refrain, for example, from false equivalencies and amplification of lies. They become liars’ enablers when, for example, they make assertions such as: Former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson says President Biden won in 2020, a claim Trump disputes.

Treating truth and lies as worthy of equal consideration makes the media complicit in MAGA deception."

“Be truthful, but not neutral,” Amanpour urged. “Bothsidesism is not always objectivity. It does not get you to the truth. Drawing false moral or factual equivalence is neither objective or truthful.

Objectivity is our golden rule and it is in weighing all the sides and hearing all the evidence, but not rushing to equate them when there is no equating.”
