As expected, Google has made Chromium impossible to use on the daily.

In their world, the only good free browser is one that traps people and their data in Google services. I trust Google as much as I trust Facebook, which is to say that I feel they are wilfully, intentionally, and actively sabotaging the open web.

It feels like browser makers are dedicated to funnelling users to Google, Bing, Yahoo, Amazon, Wikipedia, and DuckDuckGo.

Even Opera won't let one set the default search engine to a user-specified one.
