And to be honest, I don't shed a single tear for . It was always a questionable proprietary site before , but under his rule it became much, much worse. software gives a small owner class unjust power over the many.

Let's embrace and instead.

"Verified" becomes a badge of dishonor after Twitter checkmark confusion 🐳

Twitter users are pushing back against Elon Musk's new pay-for-verification policy, with many journalists and celebrities opting to cancel their subscriptions instead of keeping their blue checks out of embarrassment.

Why it matters: Internet verification used to be a badge of honor. Now that it's achievable to anyone who is willing to buy it, it's become a signal of desperation.

@onthemedia Don’t believe what @npr spokesperson said in your show about Mastodon. Twitter is a , but Mastodon has completely replaced it for me. Not usability problems at at. We just feel the lack of search, but I don’t miss biased algorithms or capricious billionaires at all

I didn’t believe it would happen, but really did gut two-factor auth for non-paying users… Surely this indicates that the company solely comprises Yes-people at this point

I followed the SVB story a bit over the weekend. I'm not sure if I have it right, but my understanding is this:

1. SVB invested large chunks of their assets/deposits in bonds or similar instruments that would crash in value if interest rates rose.

2. Because, despite a couple thousand years of history, they figured the last few years of near-zero / inflation-adjusted negative rates were definitely Here To Stay. Interest rates don't go up!

3. Interest rates went up.
