Throwback to the UC-UAW Strike when the founder of UC Access Now was interviewed about ableism at UC and within the union (ableism is systemic - it's not absent from unions). #UCAccessNow #labor #FairUCNow

Quite frankly, ableists within UC-UAW sold out disabled workers. They didn't just drop the revolutionary Access Needs article, but they adopted the language UC told them to adopt, which puts rationing & policing into worker contracts that ISN'T in ADA. They have and continue to engage in the most vicious ableist anti-democratic conduct. it is imperative to eject the appeasing ableists that gleefully did this.
If you're a UC-UAW 2865/SRU member, vote for the Organize to Win slate candidates. Ableists are depending on you continuing to be snowed by them. https://uaw2865.org/join/

Happens every time, but most of y'all either love it (you're business/colonial unionists) or you hate those who call out oppression more than you hate oppression itself. š¤·šæāāļø

The UC strike resulted in grad students (deservedly) winning better living wages. As suspected, UC is punishing faculty & future students for it. Provost requested all grad programs decrease admissions by ~20% this year, anticipating decrease in # of TAships available
#FairUCNow
Notice how UC timed the release of this.

Please understand that while the strike is over, this battle is entering perhaps its most critical phase. Will we dutifully adjust our budgets downward at UC's direction, or will we refuse to accept yet another pointless austerity measure? #fairucnow
This is bad for everyone and UC knows this. It's bad for undergrads, who will have less assistance from TAs. It's terrible for grad students, for whom it nullifies any contract gains. It's bad for faculty, who will now have to fulfill the terms of grants with 25% less assistance. #fairucnow
UC strike supporters, we need your help! UCLA has indicated that it will pass the costs of wage increases directly to departmentsāmeaning student workers' hours will be cut by ~25%. Please sign to demand UC fund the contract it negotiated. http://chwe.net/fullyfund/ #fairucnow
Oh, and it would have been fine if the #fairucnow strike had actually gotten a child care subsidy for workers, and not just students. Thanks #UC!
Fellow #UC faculty: donāt fill out those self-attestation forms that the admin is distributing. Itās illegal for them to survey our protected activities related to the strike. See guidance from CUCFA here: https://cucfa.org/2023/01/ucops-attestation-form-for-faculty/. #strike #fairUCnow
"Self-attestation" forms are coming soon to UC faculty. This means that UC admin is trying to get any faculty who canceled class in support of the #fairucnow strike to report themselves so that their salaries can be partially withheld. The image is from a letter to vice chancellors and provosts from the UC Office of the President, dated Jan. 13.
I know scheduling is tough, but I start a full-time job teaching on Monday and I have no idea of the schedule. At least in retail, we had 5 days' notice. #highered #fairucnow
Maybe we should have added that to our demands?

Fresh off of the biggest academic workers strike in the US, UC decides to pull this textbook villainous stunt. Way to keep financializing higher education, UC! š

So why does UC require medical documentation for accessibility? That increases costs for disabled students.
