I already posted the adult Clark's Grebe fishing for the juvenile who was swimming and peeping loudly. While looking through the pictures on the computer, happened to see that I caught one where the little one got the fish from the adult. I like this one.

While driving home one afternoon, saw a log in the lake completely covered in Double-crested Cormorants, one holding its wings out. My brain oddly jumped to the caption "I said 6 feet!"

Trouble with being on too many social medias and trying to find my footing is I forget to post things where they belong.

A quick drive around Harmon Reservoir and Stillwater NWR a few weeks ago to take some bird pictures. Too hot to really sit and watch so just got who was next to the road.

A trio of Clark's Grebes, one adult, two youths, swimming in Harmon Reservoir. The adult is fishing for the young ones, who are swimming around chasing her and peeping like wild when she surfaces.

Drove by the reservoir today and heard a loud squeaking chirp that Merlin ID claimed was a Western Grebe. Happened to spot this little one chasing after the adult every time they resurfaced from a dive.

Today was the "Varsity Volunteers" painting day again so back at it early morning to work on the Churchill County Museum mural. The Nevada Trails is coming along nicely, with the black and grey ghost figures over the artistic representation of the routes emigrants, pioneers, and wagon trains followed crossing the Great Basin.

I worked on the Pony Express rider and had enough time to finish up the "Fallon" label.

Attended the Moving Forward Together Powwow this weekend.

Okay, uploading to a separate site didn't work as well as I'd hoped, so sticking with posting pictures here.

While looking at the latest Sentinel 2 imagery (Great site if you haven't seen it sentinel2explorer.esri.com/ ) I saw that the excess water in the area had doubled the size of a reservoir and filled a pond marked on the map I'd never noticed. So off I went to explore.

Bounced a bit on a dry dike before coming to a sand dune. Carefully crawled to the top (me and sand are not the bestest of friends) and saw a wide expanse of desert was now a glittering lake.

I spotted my first American Avocets of the year wading around in the muck on the shore.

Lots of yellow-headed blackbirds croaking and calling from the trees and reeds surrounding the water.

There's a large tree that serves as a nest area for Great Egrets though today there was a bunch of Double-crested Cormorants and Great-tailed Grackles.

Bobbing in the water were a bunch of ducks. Canvasbacks, American Coots, Ruddy Ducks, and Mallards that I could make out.

All in all, pretty good day of checking out a new water area after work.
