I was talking through the last night and thought “could we have a successful new religious movement today?”

Best I could come up with are (17 million) and (8 million) both founded late 1800s.

Unification Church (3 million) and (100k or so) are 1900s; despite all the theosophy stuff, there doesn’t seem to be much staying power there. Neo- I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

The same organization owns both. The Epoch Times is their arm and Shen Yun is the PR cash cow.

They use it to proclaim how awesome China was before and make money. They intentionally keep it distanced from the organization.

You might have seen advertising for the Chinese dance troupe known as Shen Yun, but did you know they are a creation of the Falun Gong, a cult founded in 1992? The Falun Gong are connected to the Epoch Times newspaper.

I suspect the CIA supports this group because Mainland China’s Communist Cronies hate them so much.

This van pictured is in my neighborhood and the house it is in front of strangely has an Epoch Times newspaper box in the driveway.
