My kid biked 5+ miles on Friday on his Strider Bike which is pretty darn impressive for a three year old. And more this weekend.

It was broken up quite a bit including 8 holes of disc golf and dinner on the way home and he still wanted more. He did amazing on the trail after his doctor's appt and was moving over for people, stopping at driveways and intersections so we could cross together, etc.

I'm getting excited for pedals and wondering how far he can go!

Recipe for Exhausting One Small Boy (And One Bigger Girl)

INCREDIENTS:

1 hot sunny day
1 PB&J picnic
1 cargo bike
2 Bathing suits and towels
1 playground with splash pad

MISC ITEMS:

Sunscreen
Wet Wipes
Extra diaper(s)
Tablet

DIRECTIONS:

Load up bike with picnic lunch, miscellaneous supplies, and children.

Ride, Play, Eat, Play, Ride.

Nap.

My 4 year old had a choice to ride on a bike for 3 miles in the cold & snow or go by car. She chose the bike.

When we arrived I asked if anything was cold. Her ankles were a little cold– due to anklets instead of full-height socks. That would be easily solved with proper socks in the future.

I have some hope that if children can get beyond the excuse that “it’s too cold to ride”, then perhaps some adults can get over it as well.

Tonight I looked up options to attach a Burley Piccolo trailerbike to a Surly #BigDummy #CargoBike and couldn't find anything better than the guide I published on my blog, so I cleaned it up and republished it. My DIY solution lasted 10 years until the kids outgrew it.
