Hadn’t seen this photo before yesterday. My mom is on the right, her aunt and uncle next to her (who I saw many times when I was a child). Her mom in the middle, her dad on the left. Her dad was killed early in the war. Her brother, Ben, is on the upper left. He was killed in the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima.
I'm guessing this photo is from just before 1940, which would make my mom about nine. I don’t know the man in the back middle, and I don’t know the kids. They would all be in for some extremely difficult times over the next several years, mostly due to criminally poor leadership of their country.

I took this snap of an old family photo at my Auntie's house recently. Seated are my great-great-grandfather/mother, surrounded by some of their children, including my great-grandmother (on my mother's mother's side of the family). It probably dates to around 1910-ish but nobody's sure.
I feel fortunate to have this record of some my ancestors, even if one or two of them look haunted. I'll have to scan it properly some time.
Time is a crazy thing.
