📷 One of my favourite things to capture during family shoots is the bond between siblings. This young man was only 1 and was still a little wobbly on his feet so needed help from his big sister. She took such good care of him. In no time at all he'll be running around on his own but I'm sure these images will be cherished forever.

📷 While I don't generally pose families when I shoot family sessions but I do always make sure to get a few group shots of everyone together. Even then though, I'm still always looking out for those micro interactions between family members. I'm rarely interested in the 'everyone look to camera' shots and more the moments in between. That's where you capture the real story of a family.

📷 The secret to family photography is to build a rapport with the people you're shooting, especially the children.

When the children you're shooting feel comfortable enough to launch into an impromptu dance just for you then I think it's fair to say you've succeeded.

📷 When I'm shooting siblings I'm always looking for little signs and actions that can tell a story about the relationship and dynamic.

Sometimes that's a loving touch, or a cheeky joke. Sometimes it's little actions that give an indication of who's the most adventurous. In this case one brother broke off from playing to investigate a pretty deep looking puddle while the other hung back to watch from a safe distance.
