A Holiday road trip to see Mom.
Highs and Lows from the trip but there's no place like home!
Fun Fact: My uncle used to drive for JB Hunt. He is the one that showed me how to collect #FamilyStories and got me started in #Genealogy by "visiting relations" in #Appalachia.

Another weird yet endearing family thing: my stepmom will show up with random gifts she felt your house needed…sometimes v useful…other times very wtf. Once she got us a 3 foot statue of a manatee because it might look good in our bathroom 😂 Anyone else have family do things like this?
Share your weird yet endearing family stories!

One of my favorite stories from doing family research for a friend. Her Italian-immigrant ancestor murdered a man in Ardmore, Pennsylvania in 1913 because he was dancing. Yep, dancing. He was eventually convicted, spent time in Eastern State Penitentiary, and later settled in Columbia, Pennsylvania. #FamilyHistory #FamilyStories #Genealogy #History #MurderedForDancing #1910s #20thcentury #EasternStatePenitentiary #Philadelphia #ArdmorePA @histodons

Personally I love to read posts that make the individuals come to life on the page, rather than a list of names and dates. The more that person becomes real, the more fascinating they become. I suspect we all grow attached to people to whom we are not related, simply by researching them for someone else’s tree.
So for me #FamilyStories please…

Excited for #genealogy research trip to Columbia Co 1st cousin once removed, Steve. #familystories with 1st cousin Sara Mae & 1st cousin once removed, Ginger. Got cassette player to digitize oral stories recorded in 1980. So wonderful to hear these voices I've missed including my Dad. Big thank you to my sister for research and recording in 1980s while we still had these people with us to share stories. Thank you to ancestors who took pictures saved & labelled pics. We are so fortunate!
This is a very important, truly neglected aspect of family history. Great for kids, too. #geneadons #FamilyStories

They all agree that they came tumbling out of the car as fast as they could, except Grandma, who was tangled in her seatbelt, and it took a minute.
They all pretty much fell out of the car, and before they even all gotten back to their feet, one of my aunts realized mom was laughing hysterically.
Between laughing fits, she managed to tell them that yes, it was her car. She just wanted to see what they’d do.
Years ago, my mom, S, her sisters, and their mom, went shopping in a nearby city.
they came out of the store, mom had fallen behind just a little bit, but the car was unlocked, so everybody piled in and got their seatbelts on.
Except mom.
She held back a little bit, and look puzzled. Suddenly she yelled, “you guys! That’s not my car!”
Continued.
