It’s a cross section of skin—thin flat stratum corneum above thick varied layers of epidermis, dermis, and subcutis—and showing how 200 nanometer UV stops half way through the stratum corneum and 222 nm stops at the epidermis boundary: this is . In contrast 254 and 300 nm penetrate deep into the epidermis—this is the bad UV that you wear sunscreen to protect you against.

The upshot of course is all UV shred airborne pathogens including batteries and viruses but far-UVC seems like it’s ok to shine directly on skin/eyes and it’s apparently not a problem. So so excited about this tech dropping in price and in a few years hopefully integrated into standard public health approaches to indoor air quality.

My brother flew home (NY) from college (Chicago) early the week of Christmas—2 planes, 3 airports, very brief layover. x2, 3M Aura , no eating/drinking for the ~6 hour trip.

Family masked around him constantly once at home; all or better. 2 Germ Guardian w in common areas. Tiny in bathroom.

Brother got several neg , despite dry nose/throat a couple days in. Got on morning of 12/25, 140 hrs post flight. Negative!

Question for the medically savvy: would far-UVC-light - that is, light that kills virus and bacteria, but still keeps them afloat in the air, and thus able to be inhaled - 'inoculate' people? Not only keep them from breating live pathogens, but actually 'vaccinate' them too?
