allegedly the #RenegadeLegion game line was #FASA salvaging the games they'd pitched for the #StarWars license, but aside from the rebels vs. evil empire aspect, Renegade Legion is gritty #MilSF or #technoThriller, not #spaceOpera. there's no Star Wars left in it, not even with the #TimothyZahn dial turned up to twelve.

anyway, this was a nice little serendipitous find of something i'd always been interested in.

everything is d10-based instead of d6, there are #Traveller-like lifepaths, combat is more fine-grained and more lethal, but the bones and muscle are so close to #MSPE that it goes in my #TunnelsAndTrolls stack, not the #FASA stack.

I don't feel strongly about the #RenegadeLegion setting as presented in the book. the overwhelmingly powerful fascist New Roman Empire vs fractious human and alien polities feels like very early Baen Books, if you catch my drift.

last month i went out to 2nd & Charles and traded in a bunch of stuff for bunch of other stuff, like this copy of Legionnaire, the #RenegadeLegion rpg from 1990 that #FASA apparently farmed out to Mike Stackpole and Bear Peters and got back a gnarly #MilSF-tuned version of #MercenariesSpiesAndPrivateEyes!

37) FASA followed up their success with "Star Trek" by going after another phenomenal sci-fi show for their next RPG release, and adapted their system from Star Trek for it. "Doctor Who" gave you the opportunity to play as a Time Lord or companion, and was brilliant.

29) FASA released its first licensed version of "Star Trek" in 1982. However, the 2nd edition was released in 1983 and Games Workshop started printing it in the UK. Again, I didn't get hold of it until 1984. It was a great game and really captured Star Trek.

I probably spent a little too much for my shopping therapy today, but I found a collection of old Space Gamer magazines at my local game store and had to grab them.

As I did #GURPS, I thought another chunk of #TTRPG material would be in order.

This is my #StarTrek (before Adventures) shelf. It's a much thumbed collection

There's a scattering of reference material and some papercraft, but otherwise it's solid RPG. My first edition #FASA box is on another shelf, as it annoyingly has a misprinted rule book.

Otherwise, this is close to all the FASA adventures and supplements, plus most of #LastUnicorn and incomplete #Decipher and #Taskforce #PrimeDirective.

One thing I will do with my Foreven sector is move any classic adventure that isn’t in a nearby sector into it. Especially third party ones whose planets are no longer canon.

Legends of the Sky Raiders, Corsairs of the Turku Wastes, etc.

I saw this and decided to check it out, so I went to download their starter pack. Off to a very bad start when checkout required me to choose "Mr." or "Ms." as a salutation. I guess my non-binary stepkid isn't welcome in their web store? #FASA needs to catch up with the 21st century.

@bradfonseca #earthdawn and #fasa1879 by #fasaGames #fasa (there, got all my hashtags out of the way!) use defense target numbers Physical, Mystic, and Social. But lots of characters have active defense skills like Avoid Blow that are rolled against the attack result.
