Reason number 327 you know you love your job:
Volunteering (insisting) to code an emergency workaround fix for your prod ecom website at 11pm on a Friday night, whilst on vacation with your laptop tethered to your phone.
And having a LOT of fun doing so (#regex, #Fastly VCL, Fastly Fiddle, ftw)!
We've just flipped our CDN from #Bunny to #Fastly (#Cloudflare is next in the coming days).
Everything looks good, but if you see anything wonky with media not loading etc. please reach out to @kev or @mike.
Thanks to #community efforts, Fastly.com is sponsoring @opensuse with bandwidth, which enhances download.opensuse.org's reach. This change is live for #Tumbleweed & expected for Leap 15.5 soon. Are any of my friends here going to #RustGlobal at #WasmCon?
I'm giving a presentation about how #Fastly uses #Rust on Wednesday — we're proud to support Rust through our open source program #FastForward, and we're rebuilding our systems in Rust to ensure a more trustworthy and resilient internet into the future.
Come stop by or let me know if you want to meet up and say hey. :)

A few weeks back, my company #Fastly put on a (partially) live conversation between our #Security team and @renchap about protecting @Mastodon from #DDOS attacks.
Thanks so much to everyone who attended live and asked great questions!
If you couldn't make it, here's the recording, and a PDF with the answers to questions we didn't get to live.
(it's... very enterprise marketing. But you do not need to give us any of your information to view!)

@AyPapi
Yep, here is the exact quote:
> "These numbers are plucked out of the air however an indepth open-source analysis may expose that a cap of 256K or even 128K IP addresses may be appropriate"
We should probably lookup how many IP Addresses #Fastly has and maybe do a patch or something?? Note, the above page is **not** an official repo.
@blake Really? Are these posts coming from floss.social, or someone on their behalf?
We're fully aware of the trepidation regarding our use of #Cloudflare, and we're currently working on migrating over to #Fastly instead.
Proud to support @ernest and #Kbin — moments like what Ernest describes in this post are _exactly_ why I do this work, and why #Fastly (@devs) has a program like #FastForward. Because your contributions to #OpenSource, to the #OpenSocialWeb, shouldn't be stressful moments, and they shouldn't cost you. You should be focused on building.

Pricing has always been Fastly's Achilles heel, imo. So this is a welcome development: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20230613922301/en/Fastly-Expands-Its-Market-Reach-with-Simplified-Pricing-and-Packages
But I'm searching for the details (i.e., the actual prices of the packages) and all I can find are buttons to "Contact Sales."
I'm not sure the team actually gets it yet. Forcing me to engage a sales person to get basic information is not "simple." Just tell me upfront.
As much as I dislike Cloudflare, they have always understood this: https://www.cloudflare.com/plans/
#Kubernetes, the #opensource system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized apps, is one of those crucial bits of the #internet that everyone uses but fewer outside the tech community know about.
What's more, their community exemplifies so many of the values I hold dear: open, inclusive, trustworthy, and kind.
Today, the #K8s infra SIG announced their migration to #Fastly through #FastForward. Needless to say, we're thrilled to support.

@signalapp finally figured this out (partly). #Signal uses #Fastly and for some reason Fastly likes to reset connections with my network, and Signal doesn't try very hard to defeat the DoS
Our #FastForward program members have been up to so much great stuff recently! I wrote a round-up of the latest news on Fastly's new developer community forum:
To summarize:
— #Kubernetes Infra SIG updates from lead, Arnaud Meukam
— @Mastodon's May update from @Gargron
— Why the #Ruby API switched from Cloudflare to #Fastly
— How David & Niji keep Lorem Picsum running for millions of people globally

What have you been working on this spring?

@risottobias Heavy long time user of #Fastly here (Fastly SME at my large retail firm which has high volume traffic behind many Fastly services). Admittedly I can’t remember the onboarding process, but if you have a couple of questions, I can see if I can help (without, of course, becoming fulltime tech support 😉).
I attended #FediForum a couple weeks ago — there was so much great conversation, and you can see notes from all sessions here:
https://fediforum.org/2023-03/
I called a session about how companies like #Fastly can be good stewards of the #Fediverse and grow it sustainably, for people, projects, and the planet.
I’m curious what everyone on #Fedi thinks too — here's more info about we’re doing with #FastForward and @glitchdotcom now:
https://www.slideshare.net/HannahAubry1/fast-forward-for-the-fediverse-257444373
So what are your ideas or concerns?

@b0rk For #Fastly (a CDN)'s language VCL (Varnish) they have an open interactive playground at https://fiddle.fastly.dev/
I’m excited to participate in @FediForum this coming week, along with so many people doing great work for the #fediverse.
If you want to check out the sessions & topics we’ll be covering over the two half-days (mornings EDT), you can see them here: https://github.com/PythonLinks/FediConf/blob/main/README.md
And I’m really excited to lead a session covering how #Fastly and #FastForward are supporting, and can further support, #Mastodon and beyond.
I’d love to see you there! Register here: https://fediforum.org/attendees/
