#degoogle is going forward. I'm now on @fastmail and have a 10% discount referral link if anyone is interested: https://ref.fm/u30122032
@protonmail is fun, but that's too much privacy for me - I want to be able to use any email client I want.
#Fastmail has a lot of useful features missing from #gmail as well as email aliases and masked emails.
Oh, and I tried #OnMail as well. But then I realized that EdisonMail (the creator of OnMail) was bought by a data-crawling company =D

Google will simply not stop clawing away to get additional info and marketing opportunities out of me. Now they are opting me in to share my Google Fi CPNi by default? I've been a fanboy for years but need to limit my exposure to them it is clear. This weekend I ordered a personal domain and am migrating my family to #fastmail from gmail. First of many steps of de Googleification to come.
First week #Fastmail review.
Migration - nerve wracking when I did it, but now looking back they made it easy
Service - all the “multiple addresses from multiple domains in one inbox” requirements works well in the web interface and the iOS app
iOS app - every capability from the web is available on the app, which is wild. I can configure DNS stuff from there, which is maybe too powerful! I wish it proxied images like the native Apple Mail app does so I find myself still using it by default.
@cinja @murph @emacsen
Same here (#FastMail).
And I have a #ProtonMail account for special purposes with a "bit more" security concerns like banking for example.
@emacsen I'm quite happy with #FastMail. I used to run my own mail server, but I'm glad to outsource it to them. I have a multi-user account with multiple custom domains for my household -- essentially a business account -- and we're all satisfied with the features and performance.
What hosted mail service do you use for your business?
I host my own mail in my personal life, but my business email is hosted.
Gandi is now charging for their hosted mail, and I don't want to use Google.
I'm looking at Fastmail and Protonmail. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with either for business, or has another recommendation?

well my masked email at #fastmail eventually was acceptable to #humbleBundle, but if i click redeem it says i already have so now i have to do all the things. really not worth all this derailing.
Discovered yet more emails we're no longer receiving thanks to G so it looks like I'm going to migrate our email to @fastmail and point my domain there. Just need two accounts with all admin access and billing done by myself. So they seem to fit the bill ( $10 USD for two standard accounts ) and certainly have plenty of good reviews.
Maybe a job for tomorrow.

@chris Still dealing w/google email hosting due to so many older ppl in my family having emails on my domain - and my inability to walk them through a damned setup on iPhone to change servers! 🤬 Otherwise I'd be on #fastmail or something. Wish there was an easy way to take control of a remote iPhone/iPad to make changes. Geez...screensharing for iPhone PLEASE!
@JustineSmithies Yes, FastMail is an excellent choice, I've had an account with them for many years. Also, Runbox is very good, also got an account with them, you can add a sub account to a main account, and if you sign up and pay within 24 hours, you can get 2 years for the price of 1 on most main accounts.
Right now to seriously start to look for our next email provider. I need to have 2 accounts which I have admin access over for billing and setup as my Wife doesn't always get on with tech. Give her a break though before you comment as I have converted her to Linux. Also I'll be pointing our domain at it too. So far #Fastmail look to tick all of those boxes and more. I'm needing rid of the Gmail which I currently use to host our email.
+1 for #Fastmail. They've been my primary for nigh on a decade, no complaints. In fact, I kinda prefer paying for the email service ... best way to ensure you are the client, rather than the product.
Proton Mail has been good for secure email, though I've recently joined Tutanota, too, and for actual security, they seem even better.
@zeolith
Yeah, it can be difficult to fully de-Google for some use-cases, so it's not an all-or-nothing deal, and don't get down on yourself if you can't quite get to 100%. For myself, I only had Drive & Gmail, which I replaced w/ #Nextcloud (has MANY services beyond file storage) & #fastmail.
Good place to search for replacements:
https://alternativeto.net/
Again, their are cases where the alternatives don't have feature parity, depending on what you need. High-5 for taking these steps!
To anyone that's curious, I've been in conversation w/ #Fastmail, my email provider, re: #WEI.
They've stated they have no plans on utilizing WEI in any way/shape/form. I've been using it as my main email for years, and can't recommend them enough. So definitely check them out if you're looking to get off Gmail & tell Google to f-off.
Although I've been using #Fastmail for #email for more years than I can recall, I had still been using #Google #Contacts and #Calendar to simplify synchronization between my various devices. Tonight I finally took the leap and moved all my contacts and calendars to Fastmail as well, and put in the extra work to sync my devices' calendars and address books to Fastmail. More effort, but worth it to be a bit less dependent on Google.
I can't recommend Fastmail enough: https://ref.fm/u773335

My biggest reason for switching is that #Protonmail doesn't use proper IMAP servers. They have something more secure, but working with those servers in the past hsa been a HUGE pain for me. It's also kept me from using my favorite email client, #mu4e on #Emacs.
#Fastmail *does* have plain-old IMAP and SMTP servers, so setting up a fat email client was a breeze :-)

Perhaps something for companies like #Fastmail, #Squarespace, or even internet/cell providers?
Your customers becomes _a bit_ more sticky, but they could still move their followers and followees any time (if they stop paying for the service, don't like the moderation, or something else).
#Vivaldi and #Mozilla are in this space as well - but their model is a variation: The function of their instances is to point people to the parts of their business that _do_ make money. (Also viable.)

I like Fastmail for email (good privacy policy, 30GB storage for $6/month etc.), and it even offers basic static website hosting with 10GB storage, which I’m going to give a spin.
