Just sent a message to Torrid corporate asking them to stop carrying Harry Potter merch to support transgender people. This probably won't do anything, but every time I look through stuff on their site and see another HP thing, it just brings me so down and it feels like a gut punch of bigotry. As a fat person who wears mostly women's clothes, Torrid is such an important source of clothing, and seeing the HP stuff just makes me want to spend my money somewhere else. It probably won't help, but I hope maybe somebody who matters might read my message and think about it. Sigh. #fuckTERFs #fatshion #PlusSize

Let’s talk about #DescriptiveLanguage:

FAT is a descriptive adjective & noun.

OVERWEIGHT includes a negative judgment. We don’t say “He’s OVERHEIGHT.”

OBESE is a medical term—and a pathologizing label. It has a history & its parameters have changed over time.

All of these words may be used or understood as epithets.

The terms #FatAcceptance, #Fatshion, #FatPolitics, #FatLiberation, etc. reclaim the word as neutral while highlighting that it’s not a neutral thing to be fat in this world.

WaPo tells me that something called #LimitedToo style is coming back, as epitomized by parachute-fabric cargo maxi skirts.

If you wait long enough, #Fatshion will come to YOU! (I love those skirts).

In her piece on on #AndréLeonTalley’s estate auction, Robin Givhan writes, “The caftans, created by designers including Tom Ford, Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Rucci and Patience Torlowei, were an extravagance and crutch.”

This is true of all fashion (not just #Fatshion)—all clothes, in fact, particularly if you see #crutches in the non #ableist sense as an often necessary accessory that allows one to move through the world.

Going to be petty for a moment... but I really fucking hate that the "curvy" clothing group I joined on FB is 99% a bunch of women who are a perfectly healthy slightly padded size.

There's a billion groups they can join and post their finds, share links for clothes. This group was supposed to be for fat people.

Maybe I should look for, or start, an actually fat group...
