@arstechnica Sadly this shit ain't new - I have a 15+ year old #OfficeJet #AllInOne that will complain about lack of ink and will refuse to #scan or #fax without one manually clicking away the warning on the device.

But that's #hp - level #Assholeism, they do the same with #hp-branded #RAM on their #ProBook|s and #DeskMini as well as #Z-Series #Workstations and brick #unattended & #PXE #boot in the process...

My #fax died today. I got 90 landline numbers in that machine. I'm not planning to replace the damn thing. 🤣

Na da werd ich mal schnell irgendwo ein paar altgediente Faxgeräte zum Spottpreis erwerben. Ich könnt mir vorstellen, dass da so manche Behörde bald Interesse dran haben könnte. Und wenn es nur an den Ersatzteilen ist. Erinnert an die #NASA, die für viel Geld alte Waschmaschinen gekauft hat, da die darin befindlichen Chips auch zur Steuerung des Space Shuttle genutzt wurden. Ob die Verwaltung auch bald Walkie Talkies für sich entdeckt?

We watched Tim Hunkin's fun video (original from c.1987) on fax machines, and when he got to the bit where he and the late Rex Garrod demonstrated how they send messages over long distances, I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, Terry Pratchett had watched this too, and that it was at least partly the inspiration for the clacks.
