Four striking so-called Romano-Egyptian mummy portraits from the . The difference between encaustic (the first and fourth portraits) and tempera (second and third portraits) is really striking. Encaustic brings the subject to life.

Gold signet ring with carnelian or garnet intaglio from Petra, Jordan. It is small so it is believed that it belonged to a child, but it could have been worn by an adult person on the pinky finger what we can see on shrouds from or sculptures from . The ring was found in the ruins of the Qasr al-Bint, the temple where the Nabataean god Dushara was probably worshiped.

First (belated) on Mastodon is: Palaeomaston! This molar is from a cow-sized proboscidean that stomped through the forests of the Fayum Depression of Egypt 30 million years ago. It’s lower tusks formed a scoop and its upper tusks curved around the scoop.
