#EleanorRoosevelt was in a 40 year lesbian relationship with a journalist, #LorenaHickok, who was apparently her exclusive partner after president #Roosevelt died. Before #FDR was president, this was considered exotic, but not important enough to report. After FDR died, it was considered too scandalous to report, as cold-war era anti-LGBTQ sentiment had begun. It was revealed in letters long after they'd all died.

An important leg, Glass-Steagall, which #regulated #banks was partially #repealed under #clinton. Within a decade, the #greatrecession hit. This was not a #coincidence. Every #economic system requires some degree of #regulation to operate optimally. #doddfrank was a step in the right direction, but IMO somewhat more is required.

@nevin I live near FDRs estate in NY on what was once his farmland. He did a huge amount of reforestation to replenish the soil from farming. #FDR was reforesting NY before he became President.

@nevin The GOP is basically promoting #FDR 's Civilian Conservation Corps reforestation plans from the New Deal - as a smokescreen to continue burning fossil fuels.

The US GOP is making noise about their grand idea to plant a gazillion trees to offset the continuing use of fossil fuels.

#FDR did it first with the New Deal and the Civilian Conservation Corps. FDR forested and reforested a huge amount of land in his time. The #Roosevelt tree army planted some 3 billion trees AND put people to work. I live near his estate and forests in NY. It's amazing.

We need the return of #FDR's 90% tax rate to save the insanely wealthy from themselves. Obscene wealth drives people insane.

People act like #FDR threatened to expand the court and the #SCOTUS capitulated, but that's _not_ what happened.

He didn't have to ask people to "vote harder" in 1937 because they already had in 1936. His policies were overwhelmingly popular, he had a commanding reelection, and his party had supermajorities in the house and the senate.

Say what you will about Biden, but he can't pull FDR's tactics and win when he doesn't have FDR's base of support.
