#OTD in 1942, the National Liberation Front of Greece, led by the Greek Communist Party, gave permission to create an armed resistance movement, which became known as the Greek People's Liberation Army (ELAS). ELAS went on to help liberate most of Greece from the Nazis, and to stage elections for an anti-fascist “Mountain Government”, allowing Green women to vote for the first time.
